Worn by the weather, I pinpoint the hour This body feels so shapeless to me It all comes down to the poison you pick Can’t stand the thought of losing control My feet wander, get closer to home My insides shake, as you said Don’t get sentimental Don’t let it wear you down
2.
Blind Spots 04:57
Bang bang, there’s a price on your head Run run, now it’s time to collect Did you lose it? Oh it didn’t go away, like you always said it would Tik tok, goes the clock in your skull Run run, boy the damage is done Did you lose it? Oh you didn’t go away, like you always said you would Time’s up, throw the ropes round the neck Run run, now the money’s been spent Did you lose it? The drugs didn’t go away, like you always said they would Bang bang, there’s a price on your head Run run, boy it’s time to collect Did you lose it? The drugs didn’t go away, like you always said they would Tik tok, goes the clock in your skull Run run, boy the damage is done Did you lose it? The drugs didn’t go away, like you always said they would It all comes down, just tear the fever out of me, tear the feelings out of me My mouth boils over, just tear the fever out of me, tear the feelings out of me It all comes down, just tear the fever out of me, tear the feelings out of me

Let the boys go out at night It will pull them through Does it burn since you’ve lost your fire? Let it pull you through It pulls you through Let it pull you through It pulls me through Let it pull you through

Life is but a wreck, of all the plans you’ve made of all the plans you’ve made I don’t believe in ghosts But I feel like one You don’t believe in ghosts But I feel like one Life is but a wreck, of all the plans you’ve made of all the plans you’ve made
5.
My mind felt like a sixties carnival, in search of never-ending rest The wheels roll off the tarmac, listen to the sound of their disdain Scorching heat, uphold the sun, from shining on my brow Your voice rolls off the intercom, for all I know it’ll fade in time And they told me to lie down and watch the rest And I know to start, I need some keys to open up As the low moon dances first, it crops the roots right off the trees. The smell of ozone stings the air, covers me so steadily And you owe it to his life, and you know that far too well Just keep mounting to the sun, say aloha when you’re there Because you owe it to his life, and you know that far too well Just keep mounting to the sun, say aloha when you’re there As the low moon dances first, it crops the roots right off the trees. The smell of ozone stings the air, cover me but steadily
6.
May all your pretty faces Comfort you tonight As the masks are falling off now Would you care to watch the fight? As the boxers they go live soon And the bets are coming in Will you ever bury the hatchet? Or always aim to win? I hope you know that you walk down a street of gold I hope you know I’ll gladly seed a different root Boy, swing for the fences They’re built by lesser men And they painted pretty pictures, son I know you’d die to be like them Could you settle for the backseat? Or would you ruin your only ride? Pick the wheel and be like them son Live your life in grand denial I hope you know that you walk down a street of gold I hope you know I’ll gladly seed a different root People die of trying all the time People die, won’t you join? People die of trying all the time People die, can’t you see? Out come all the spiders And out come all the rats They’re eating off the covers Of all the things you’ve said
7.
Alexandru 04:10
Don’t you want to grow up for a while, Keep your feet upon the tiles Over the spaces that I crawled Was it ever enough? Taking things for granted, what did you gain? Was it lost in a heavy rain? Into the spaces we once crawled Was it ever enough? Welcome to a place where dreams will die Let it harness what’s inside Over our heads but close at heart Was it ever enough? Railing off the ride is the best way, The world is a quiet place Into the spaces we once crawled Was it ever enough? And you tore down the world in pieces When they got to you And you said don’t take anything for granted, (from this home for ants, you’ll never leave) because all my devils live in details (from this home for ants, you’ll never leave) Don’t take anything for granted, (from this home for ants, you’ll never leave) because all my devils live in details (from this home for ants, you’ll never leave)

Bite the hand because the hand it feeds And the way it feeds, it chains me to my knees Like roots to the ground, and dead in the cold hard graves So won’t you drop your hammers on them all As the skies above, they yearn to fall Into the roots in the ground and dead in the cold hard graves Just know it rears its ugly head in time The beast that swallows all your lights and sounds Pulls roots from the ground, and dead from the cold hard graves And then it sweeps the land in every shade of black Crooked teeth gnashing on dreams you had Like roots in the ground, and dead from the cold hard graves. But maybe it’s meant to save us all In this age of heroes Maybe it’s meant to save us all From an age of heroes. You never looked, you didn’t mind It’s the price you pay for wool over your eyes Like roots in the ground and dead in the cold hard graves

about

Kingdom of Roots marks the return of Belgian indie orchestra If Anything Happens To The Cat after a year long hiatus, and sees the band once again shed its skin with a highly experimental record featuring a more visceral sound, while still retaining their post-rock antics.

Musically speaking this is very much a guitar record in which the band embraces and builds upon their signature sound of layered melodies and anthemic vocals. Like the previous record, Kingdom of Roots is dominated by a singular lyrical theme. This time we see the band delve deeper into the meaning of putting down roots and how these roots differ from one another, resulting in a sonically muscular and lyrically introspective record.

Kingdom of Roots is the band's third studio album, after Sun Drunk Moon in 2014 and Mångata in 2017. IAHTTC's music is an unpredictable mix between post-rock, shoegaze and indie rock. Every song is a journey: through intertwining layers of guitars and synths, past flashes of vocals and guest instruments, often culminating into crushingly emotional climaxes. It has been described by critics as a unique, adventurous and technically masterful take on the post-rock genre.

Kingdom of Roots contains 44 minutes of new music, spread over 8 songs. The album was recorded at Much Luv studio during the summer of 2019 with help of producer/engineer Tim De Gieter, with whom the band also worked for their previous record Mångata, and was mastered by Frederik Dejongh at Jerboa Mastering.
