Ombre This specific version of Echo Park is still one of the best post-rock sound to me: when it came out, way before Mangata, I was blown away. The B-side of Out and Into the Vast was added to the original release way later - fortunately, it is excellent too. I do feel like those "B-sides" are better than their A-side counterparts - they are grittier, and this lack of smoothness gives them a more direct, truthful ring.

You made it out ‘til summertime I made it out ‘til June But now the storm it catches up There’s nothing left to do but hold on to the ropes my love Close your eyes again The light’s too far away to see Across the misty land You felt like steering deeper out I felt like dashing in By now it’s much too late to leave The ropes are wearing thin I never prayed so hard for rain While slamming on the keel I felt the water rushing in The sense of something real And I will brave this storm for you Until the sheer strake brakes When dark sets in and summer fades We’ll look for something new In bodies of wood We’ll conquer the flood No fear of the tides We cut loose and cast off Did you see it happen It was right in front of your eyes I tried to save it all for you And you still look surprised I look like a battlefield I’m swept from side to side Cave in or dig a deeper hole a place where I can hide And I will build a ship for you we’ll sail right out of town Going down with the strength of the tides wasn’t your plan, I know it never was But fixing holes the size of the ship isn’t an option when you’ve never lost So when the waves started eating the deck I kinda liked it, I must admit For what it’s worth, this boat was never enough To hold the both of us, as it did And I will build a ship for you we’ll sail right out of town

It must have rung thirty times before he picked up the receiver Voice like broke ribs he spits out a 'who's there?' His brow; prodigiously furrowed even when sat untroubled lightens now and turns itself inside out His hope is a mewling fox cub sat tight in a tighter throat 'Outside... Out there?' The answer comes like morning sun 'Aye, Shay. Aye.' Shay contains himself. Replaces the receiver and returns to his book. That night, just as the wine and sleep take him, he feels his blood finally warm again. And he dreams of old friends. One in particular; a friend who became a wife after a thousand shared breakfasts A wife who bore and loved their child. Now both hang vampyric each night in oil paintings. Next a.m. Shay washes the shame from his eyes and the vinegar out his mouth While loading his pack the ocelots in his amber eyes glide between mottles and his memories step up and are alive once more. The walk from the harbour to his grandfather's farm 'My numbers came in so praise Jesus, praise money!' The smell of sweat and wilting wood anemones abound In the hour before departure he sharpens his knife You never knew back then, so he couldn't know now Four hours he reckons, maybe half a day Then he'd be stood at the door His hand would be sliding up her neck, along her jaw and pushing the hair back over her ear And then the kiss But when he closes that third door behind him, it's scrawled on the wall And there are no scents anymore Just there, all it says is "No one made it. Prank call."

about

If Anything Happens To The Cat Gent, Belgium

If Anything Happens To The Cat is a five-piece indie orchestra from Belgium. Their music is an unpredictable mix between post-rock, shoegaze and indie rock. Every song is a journey: through intertwining layers of guitars and synths, past flashes of vocals and guest instruments, often culminating into crushingly emotional climaxes. ... more
